Il ponte di Brooklyn si accende per l’Hudson Canyon: arte e mare alla vigilia del mese italiano
Il 25 e 26 settembre una proiezione immersiva trasformerà uno dei simboli di New York in una finestra sulla vita marina dell'Atlantico.
Tutti ormai sanno, a New York e nel New Jersey, che si avvicina il mese italiano. Anche noi saremo lì a festeggiare, insieme ai premiati del Riace Warriors Award 2026, nella serata del Mediterranean Heart, in programma il 6 ottobre al The Venetian di Garfield. Ma non tutti sanno che, pochi giorni prima, il ponte di Brooklyn ospiterà uno spettacolo dedicato a un luogo straordinario nascosto sotto l'oceano.
Il 25 e 26 settembre, dalle 19:00 alle 22:00, sul ponte sarà proiettata AQUA COSMOS: The Hudson Canyon, un'opera immersiva di diciotto minuti dell'artista multimediale Anita Glesta. Il pubblico potrà ammirarla dall'Emily Warren Roebling Plaza, nel Brooklyn Bridge Park.
L'installazione nasce in collaborazione con WCS e ArtW ed è presentata attraverso NYC DOT Art, il programma artistico del Dipartimento dei Trasporti della città di New York. Le immagini porteranno idealmente gli spettatori fino all'Hudson Canyon, a circa 160 chilometri dalla costa: il più grande canyon sottomarino della costa atlantica.
Nelle sue acque vivono balene, tartarughe marine, squali, tonni e coralli d'acqua fredda, insieme a molte specie importanti per la pesca locale. La proiezione vuole far conoscere questo ambiente e richiamare l'attenzione sulla sua tutela. WCS ne ha proposto la candidatura a Santuario Marino Nazionale nel 2016; la NOAA guida il percorso pubblico per la possibile designazione.
Sarà un'occasione per scoprire un volto meno conosciuto di New York: quello del mare che si estende oltre il suo skyline. Poi, il 6 ottobre, ci ritroveremo nel New Jersey per celebrare le persone e le storie del Riace Warriors Award.

Brooklyn Bridge to Light Up for Hudson Canyon Ahead of Italian Heritage Month
On September 25 and 26, an immersive projection will turn one of New York's most recognizable landmarks into a window on Atlantic marine life.
Across New York and New Jersey, everyone knows that Italian Heritage Month is approaching. We'll be there to celebrate with the honorees of the 2026 Riace Warriors Award at the Mediterranean Heart gala on October 6 at The Venetian in Garfield. But fewer people know that, just days earlier, the Brooklyn Bridge will host a spectacular tribute to a remarkable place hidden beneath the ocean.
On September 25 and 26, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., AQUA COSMOS: The Hudson Canyon, an 18-minute immersive work by multimedia artist Anita Glesta, will be projected onto the bridge. Visitors can watch from Emily Warren Roebling Plaza in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Created in collaboration with WCS and ArtW, the installation is presented through NYC DOT Art, the New York City Department of Transportation's public art program. Its imagery will take viewers on a visual journey to Hudson Canyon, about 100 miles offshore and the largest submarine canyon along the Atlantic Coast.
Its waters are home to whales, sea turtles, sharks, tuna, and colorful cold-water corals, as well as many species important to local fisheries. The projection aims to introduce more people to this marine environment and the efforts to protect it. WCS nominated Hudson Canyon for consideration as a National Marine Sanctuary in 2016; NOAA is leading the public process toward a possible designation.
It is a chance to discover another side of New York: the ocean beyond its skyline. Then, on October 6, we'll gather in New Jersey to celebrate the people and stories of the Riace Warriors Award.
